The star of the movie 300, Gerald Butler is charged with assault on May 14, 2009. He was said to have roughed up a photographer last October 7, 2008. He was at the premier of the movie RockNRolla when someone from the paparazzi got too close to him and he suddenly seemed uncomfortable with it. The assault happened between the Crown Bar in Los Angeles and the space where he was heading for his limo. Reports stated that Butler punched the pap more than once and this gave way to splitting the guy’s lip open.
The rep for Gerald Butler claims that the photographer was stalking the actor, stating that he chased Gerald on the streets and almost killed a pedestrian. The scheduled date for the hearing is on June 10. Butler should appear in court where he is charged with misdemeanor criminal battery accusations. If the court is able to prove that he has made a mistake, he will have to face a jailing sentence of up to six months according to Frank Mateljan who is the Los Angeles City Attorney spokesperson.
It was said that the actor and the photographer raced through the streets when he left the party. Gerald Butler told his driver to stop the car because it seemed evident that the paparazzo will not stop in stalking on him. The photographer even sped through the red lights and he did not care if he would hit the pedestrians crossing the street. This was according to the manager of Butler who was Alan Siegel.
Despite all the accusations of the opposite tam, the attorney of the actor, Blair Berk says that he does not have to show up in court. The LA City Attorney was the one who filed for the charges. The representatives for the Scotsman did not deny the allegations but his attorney made no comment about it. Alongside the six months in jail, if he is proved to be guilty during his arraignment, he will have to pay the 2,000 dollars fine.
Gerald Butler has starred in several films including P.S. I Love You as well as Dracula 2000. He is recently filming his upcoming film called The Ugly Truth which is a romantic comedy. He co-stars with Katherine Heigl.
There have been several incidents of the celebrities hitting a paparazzo. The photographers are defending their side of story that they are only doing their job while the celebrities say that they have had enough. There are actually some pictures of the pap that was punched by Butler on the Internet. They showed that the photographer’s lips are bleeding and sore.
Comments regarding the allegations on the star remained divided since the fans of the actor believe that the pap deserved what he got. Still, the lawyer for Butler insisted that his client will not have to appear in court despite of the several reports. Surely, the paparazzi got the story he wanted when he chased one of the tough guys in Hollywood.
