For the coming weekend, I understand that the weather is going to be a bit brutal. Instead of having our outside BBQ ruined by Mother Nature, here is a list of three movies to see this weekend to help take your mind off of the miserable weather. This week’s recommendations will have a unique mixture of comedy, revenge, and a family flick. I am talking about Taken, Role Models, and Marley & Me.

  • Taken stars Liam Neeson plays a retired spy who is forced to come out of retirement when he hears first hand that his only daughter is kidnapped by the mafia in France to be used in their sex trade operations. Neeson’s character pulls out all stops to find his daughter at all costs. Note that this movie can be graphic, but you actually end up cheering for Neeson’s character with the things he comes up with to extract information from the sex traffickers. Think Man on Fire but more global.
  • Role Models stars Paul Rudd (Clueless, Knocked Up) and Seann William Scott (American Pie, Road Trip) as two thirty somethings who have no clear direction in their life. A comical mishap places them in a court ordered community service where they must mentor younger children. Aside from the dick and fart jokes, this movie made me laugh out loud at times with their antics between them and the kids they are mentoring. This is the only movie that has a large live action role playing battle at the end, where the film makers pull it off effortlessly.
  • Marley & Me is a heart filled, tear jerking movie about a couple played by Jennifer Aniston (T.V.s Friends) and Owen Wilson (Armageddon, Drillbit Taylor). These two adopt a puppy which turns out to be the worst dog in the world—the puppy is so adorable, it could get away with anything. Throughout the years, their family grows as well as the dog, Marley. Marley is a true member of the family towards the end of the film and the ending is a justified tear jerker. Word of advice, please do not see this movie alone. After watching the movie, I now want another dog.

These three movies to watch this weekend are enjoyable to watch, and will certainly keep you entertained for the weekend. Taken, Role Models, and Marley & Me are all available immediately for rent at your local video store or through your on-line rental source. Better yet, I would recommend purchasing these movies to add to your DVD library. With these three movies, you will laugh, cry, and cheer during all three of them. No disappointments for this weeks picks. Check back with us next week for our next three picks to rent for the weekend.
